Soccer is the only game that brings fleeting moments of pure joy, and gives meaning to the lives of millions around the whole world...

martin jol It was bound to happen and in fact i’m suprise it took this long for the Spurs board to sack Martin Jol, i’m not saying he was a bad coach or anything but it was public knowledge from the start of the campaign that his head was on the chopping board and last night’s UEFA Cup 2-1 lost to Getafe in group G was the last straw.

Jermain Defoe opened the scoring in the first half for the home side, before goals from Estaban Granero and Braulio Nobrega handed Spurs only their second European home defeat in their history.

Jol was said to be sacked during half-time of the game.

Tottenham confirmed the sacking of Martin Jol as manager,Spurs have issued a statement revealing the board asked Jol and assistant Chris Hughton to stand down, although there were reports earlier in the evening that the Dutchman had resigned.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: “For me, Martin and Chris’ departure is regrettable.

“Our greatest wish was to see results turn in our favour and for there to be no need for change.”

Spurs have won just one of their 10 Premier League games this season and remain in the bottom three
